How to Care for Goalkeeper Gloves
A practical guide: washing, drying, storing, and extending lifespan.
Washing
- Cool water — never warm. High temperatures degrade the latex foam, causing the grip to fail faster.
- Gentle soap if the glove is heavily soiled (e.g., mild soap, latex foam soap).
- Rinse gently, without wringing.
- Do not use a washing machine or laundry detergents.
Drying
- Air dry at room temperature.
- Never: on a radiator, in direct sunlight, or in a clothes dryer.
- Optimal: in an open position, without folding, so the foam doesn't stick to itself.
Storage
- A ventilated bag (preferably a dedicated glove bag).
- Don't keep them in a sealed plastic bag after training — moisture + heat = shortened lifespan.
- Between training sessions — store in a dry place, out of direct sunlight.
Latex Lifespan
Latex foam is a consumable material — it wears out with use. Normal wear and tear is not a product defect; it's the nature of the material.
Factors that shorten lifespan:
- Playing on dry, hard surfaces (cinder, artificial pitches)
- Not washing — dirt acts like sandpaper
- Drying at high temperatures
- Storing in damp conditions
Factors that extend lifespan:
- Moisture during play (a slightly damp glove = better grip + less abrasion)
- Regular washing after training
- Two pairs — rotating a match pair (Varis X PRO / Invictus X PRO) and a training pair (Invictus X Training)
When to Replace
The signs:
- The foam loses its grip (the grip "fails" — the ball slips from your hands)
- Visible signs of latex abrasion on the palm
- The foam cracks or peels away from the outer fabric
- The gloves smell despite washing (bacteria in the foam)
