How to care for goalkeeper gloves
Practical guide: washing, drying, storage, extending lifespan.
Washing
- Cool water — never hot. High temperature degrades latex foam, grip fades faster.
- Gentle soap if the glove is heavily soiled (e.g., gray soap, latex foam soap).
- Rinse gently, without wringing.
- Do not machine wash or use laundry detergent.
Drying
- In the air, at room temperature.
- Never: heater, sun, clothes dryer.
- Optimal: open position, unfolded, so the foam doesn't "stick" to itself.
Storage
- Ventilated bag (ideally a dedicated glove bag).
- Don't store in sealed plastic after training — moisture + heat = shortened lifespan.
- Between training sessions — dry place, no direct sun.
Latex lifespan
Latex foam is a consumable material — it wears with use. Normal wear is not a product defect, that's the nature of the material.
Factors that shorten lifespan:
- Playing on dry, hard ground (hardpan, artificial fields)
- No washing — dirt grinds like sandpaper
- High-temperature drying
- Storage in moisture
Factors that extend glove lifespan:
- Moisture during play (slightly damp glove = better grip + less wear)
- Regular washing after training
- Two sets — rotation of match (Varis X PRO / Invictus X PRO) and training (Invictus X Training)
When to replace
Signals:
- Foam loses grip (grip "sits" — ball slips from your hand)
- Visible latex wear marks on the inside
- Foam cracks or peels away from the outer fabric
- Gloves smell despite washing (bacteria in foam)
