How to care for goalkeeper gloves
Practical guide: washing, drying, storage, extending lifespan.
Washing
- Cool water — never warm. High temperatures degrade latex foam, causing grip to deteriorate faster.
- Mild soap if the glove is heavily soiled (e.g., bar soap, latex foam soap).
- Rinse gently, without shaking.
- Do not use a washing machine or laundry detergents.
Drying
- Air drying, at room temperature.
- Never: radiator, sun, clothes dryer.
- Optimally: open position, without folding, so the foam doesn't 'stick' together.
Storage
- Ventilated bag (preferably a dedicated glove bag).
- Do not keep in sealed plastic after training — moisture + heat = shortened lifespan.
- Between Training Sessions — Dry Place, Out of Direct Sunlight.
Latex lifespan
Latex foam is a consumable material — it wears out with use. Normal wear and tear is not a product defect, that is the nature of the material.
Factors shortening lifespan:
- Playing on dry, hard surfaces (paving, artificial pitches)
- No washing — dirt rubbing off like sandpaper
- Drying at high temperatures
- Storing in damp conditions
Factors extending durability:
- Moisture during play (slightly damp glove = better grip + less abrasion)
- Regular washing after training
- Two sets — match day rotation (Varis X PRO / Invictus X PRO) and training (Invictus X Training)
When to replace
Signals:
- Foam loses grip (grip "fails" — the ball slips from the hand)
- Visible signs of latex wear on the inner side
- The foam cracks or detaches from the outer fabric
- Gloves smell despite washing (bacteria in the foam)
