What is Stripe Climate?
Stripe Climate is an initiative whose partners include Shopify, Alphabet (Google), Meta, H&M Group, Autodesk, McKinsey. Together with Frontier finance the development of new carbon removal technologies (DAC — Direct Air Capture, biooil, enhanced weathering, CO₂ mineralization).
These technologies are expensive today (~$500–1000 per ton of CO₂). They need early support to become cheaper by 2030, reaching ~$100/ton, and to become a scalable solution. That's why FM contributes its 1%.
Why this is different from "CO₂ offsets"
- We don't plant trees nor do we buy offsets of questionable effectiveness
- Permanent removal — CO₂ stored in rocks, underground, or bio-oil for 1,000+ years
- Measurable — Frontier publishes details of each project (tons of CO₂, cost, location)
- Certified — Stripe verifies every supplier (Climeworks, Charm Industrial, Heirloom etc.)
Where do we get the money?
From our margin. The price of the gloves has not changed. This is not a "tax" for the customer — it's our voluntary contribution. We prefer to earn a little less so that goalkeepers can play in a world that breathes.
